On Feb. 20, 2013, Dr. Zhang Han, who just obtained his PhD in sociology from The University of Hong Kong, went through all personnel procedures to join the Department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, as a post-doctoral fellow. Dr. Zhang Han previously obtained his bachelors’, master’s and PhD degrees respectively from Shandong University, Nanjing University and The University of Hong Kong. He has been consistently committed to research in the fields of sociology of development and political sociology, and particularly the research of urban residents and organizations.
In his two-year post-doctoral research, in collaboration with his advisor Prof. Zhang Xiaojin, Dr. Zhang Han will be focusing on two projects: “The Governance of Urban Business Districts in Chinese Metropolises: A Case Study of Party-Building and Chambers of Commerce in Ningbo’s Urban Business Districts”, and “Balanced Integration of Democracy and Performance: The Cixi Model of Professional Village Administrators and Rational Governance”. It is expected that Dr. Zhang Han will further enhance the ability of the Department of Political Science to conduct cross-disciplinary research on local governance.
